Lesson 7 - Conversations

In the following section, you will learn how tell your age and count in Kven.

Case suffixes throughout the lesson will be marked in red to help you become more acquainted with them.

Dialogue 1

(Universiteetissa)

A: Hei! Olen studentti ja olen kotosin Amerikasta.

B: No, hei! Mie olen opettaaja ja työtelen Tromssassa, mutta olen Uslusta pois.

(At the university)

A: Hi! I am a student and I come from the States.

B: Well hey! I am a teacher and I work in Tromsø, but I’m originally from Oslo.

Dialogue 2

(Lemmijoven flyyikentä)

A: Mikä oon sinun nimi ja mistä sie tulet?

B: Olen Theodor, ja olen Lontoosta pois.

(At the Lakselv airport)

A: What is your name where are you from?

B: I am Theodor, and I am from London

*According to official website of Vadsø Kommune, airport is called "lentohamina" in Kven. However, I've used "flyyikentä" in this dialogue instead because Vadsø essentially has different dialect than Porsanki.

Dialogue 3

(Putikissa)

A: Nyt oon kova pakkanen!

B: Joo, se oon kova pakkanen tässä Pohjais-Ruijassa!

(In a shop)

A: It is really cold now.

B: Yeah, it is very cold here in northern Norway.
